How your dental insurance works

Every dental plan is different and coverage is determined by your employer’s contract with the insurer. While we don’t control the details of your plan, we will check your benefits and let you know what portion is covered and what your co-payment will be.

It’s a good idea to know the details of your own plan. We encourage you to ask your benefits manager or insurance provider about your coverage limits, as dental office staff aren’t experts on every plan. We’ll help where we can, but ultimately the specifics of your plan are best handled by your insurer.

Most plans pay about 50–80% of the cost of treatment. The remaining balance (your co-payment or deductible) is paid by you at the time of service. We can bill the insurance company directly for the covered portion, but you’ll settle any remaining charges with us at your appointment.

Dentists in BC set their fees based on the annual fee guide from the British Columbia Dental Association. Your benefits are calculated from those guide fees. If you have any questions about fees or coverage, just ask; we can explain how costs are determined.

We’ll confirm your appointment
After you reach out, we’ll confirm the date and time by text, email, or phone call, answer any questions, and send you information about your visit. If you need to fill out any forms beforehand, we can email them to you.
At your appointment
On the day of your appointment, arrive a few minutes early and bring your photo ID and insurance cards. We’ll greet you at the front, offer you coffee or tea while you complete any paperwork, and give you a quick tour so you feel at home in our space. The dentist will review your dental history and any concerns you have. And as a small welcome, we’ll send you home with a newcomer gift.
After your appointment
If any follow-up visits or treatments are needed, we’ll help you schedule them.
