Has it been a while since you visited the dentist? Perhaps you only ever feel the need to go when you think there is a problem? If so then you are missing a trick. Regular preventative dental care, combined with a good oral hygiene routine at home, will help you to save money and time and could even prevent you from experiencing dental pain.

In addition, you will benefit from having the confidence and sense of well-being that comes from knowing you have a beautiful, and healthy smile. Best of all, preventative dental care is easy, and the dental team at Tsawwassen Place Dental use all the latest technologies to help keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible.

Regular Dental Check-ups and Professional Cleanings

These are the backbone of a preventative dental care regime, and it really doesn’t take much time to pop in to see us every six months or so. This enables Dr. Leslie to check your teeth and gums for any early signs of disease. Early detection means treatment is quicker, cheaper and less invasive.

Dr. Leslie will be looking for any small signs of lesions that could indicate the beginnings of a cavity. Tsawwassen Place Dental has the latest technology to help detect caries (dental decay) that would otherwise be hidden from view, so any lesions can be monitored or treated before they cause you any discomfort. Your gums are also checked, as healthy gums help to hold your teeth securely in position. A well-cared for mouth will have gums that are free from disease, and which do not bleed or feel tender to the touch.

If it is your first check-up at our dental office, then Dr. Leslie will also check your neck, head and oral tissues including the insides of your cheeks and your tongue. This is simple, quick and completely painless, but has the potential to save your life! Oral cancer is very rare, and survival rates are extremely high, provided it is caught early on. It is one of those diseases that is all too easy to miss unless you receive regular examinations from your dentist.

Professional cleanings with one of our hygienists will help to lift some of the surface stains from your teeth, so you’ll leave our office with a fresh mouth and fresher breath, but this isn’t the main reason for having your teeth professionally cleaned. Regular cleaning removes calculus (also called tartar) form your teeth. Calculus consists of hardened plaque bacteria that could otherwise infect and inflame your gums, increasing the risk of gum disease.
